Lai Yuanming, male, Han, born in Longnan, Jiangxi, China in August 1962, Doctor of Science, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, doctoral supervisor, is currently the Vice Board Chairman and President of Chongqing Jiaotong University. Graduated from Lanzhou Jiaotong University in July 1986, he has served as a researcher at the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAREERI, CAS), and Vice President and Dean of Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Having long been committed to plateau frozen soil engineering research, he had presided over more than 20 major projects such as key research and development projects by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China that addressed world-class technical problem in the construction of roads and tunnels involved in the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in a permafrost environment, therefore, he has won five national awards including the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award and Innovation Team Award, National Technological Invention Award and Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award. He was granted the Special Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2008, awarded the title of National Outstanding Worker by the State Council in 2010 and elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences in 2011.
