Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of new engineering research centers for the year of 2022. After several rounds of expert evaluation and defense, the Engineering Research Center of Eco-Mechanical Desertification Control and Ecosystem Carbon Sink applied by Chongqing Jiaotong University was successfully approved for construction. This engineering research center is the only approved research platform among Chongqing colleges and universities of  Chongqing.

The Engineering Research Center is oriented to the major needs of desertification control, ecological restoration and ecological carbon sink in China and around the world, and has condensed four key technology research directions, including ecological material mechanics and engineering application, ecological cycle mechanics and ecological carbon sink process, ecological environment mechanics and ecosystem microclimate effect, and ecological restoration mechanics and ecological carbon sink engineering technology. It is dedicated to carrying out research for the development of desertification control, ecological restoration, and carbon sink engineering technology based on the principle of ecological mechanics. It specializes in carrying out research and development and promoting the transformation of green scientific and technological achievements.

The successful establishment of this Engineering Research Center will improve the scientific and technological innovation capacity of the university, promote the rapid development of the university's scientific and technological undertakings in the 14th Five-Year Plan, accelerate the green transformation of traditional transportation disciplines, and provide strong support for the construction of cross-disciplinary ecological mechanics and the cultivation of complex innovative talents, which will eventually contribute to the high-quality development of the economy and society.
